Broken Prey (Lucas Davenport, #16)Broken Prey by John Sandford

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The writing style in this one became very annoying very fast. I don't remember it being quite this bad in earlier books but then again it's been a while since I picked one up. Each chapter is made up of multiple point of view paragraphs, some being only a few lines long, jumping all over the place.

To boil it all down, Lucas and Sloane are embroiled in a serial killer's mess. A released rapist from a mental hospital is now thought to be raping and killing both men and women. The chase for him leads them to the high security mental hospital and 'the gods down the hall' a series of serial killers being held and studied there.

Before long Lucas and Sloane come to a dark conclusion (about several chapters after I did) that this less than intelligent former inmate isn't working alone and that there is a puppeteer in the background. In more personal drama, Sloane wants to retire and Lucas doesn't want to lose him.

It's exactly what you expect from a Lucas Davenport book, violence, swears, action. C.W. rape, murder, mutilation and generalized violence.
