Ripped Tide (Oak Island, #1)Ripped Tide by Lance Carney

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

One I picked up at a local book festival and I'm giving it leeway and maybe more stars than it deserved. The problem with humorous mysteries is that...humor is subjective and making women look like idiots isn't my humor. And that's exactly how this opens. Dan O'Dwyer is in the ER after catching a Jellyfish to his crotch and first whines about wanting a male doctor as if women aren't expected to have male doctors see us naked (This probably hit me harder than most because I am a woman doctor and heard that whine way too many times). He blames his misogyny on his pain and there's some unprofessional behavior that later he gets a call about where he gets to discuss that the dilaudid he was given didn't work.

Dan is, as it turns out, a former hospital pharmacist who lost his wife to medical malpractice and if there's one thing he does know it's when meds are diluted. The hospital coordinator who spoke to him arranges with HR for Dan to basically be a spy in the hospital to find out who is stealing meds. He insists on being a janitor so he can go thru the hospital everywhere and is basically ignored so he can spy better.

And that's it, that's the plot which once we get to it isn't a bad one. The hospital admin and he sort of start up a relationship and we have yet another female unprofessional nurse sexually harrassing him to deal with. Then there's his weird friend from high school who is there mostly as the buddy side kick comic relief.

Like I said, not my humor but the mystery itself wasn't bad.
